Frocktober Week One Recap

Every year, I participate in FrocktoberFrocktober is an annual philanthropic campaign held each October. The campaign invites anyone to take on one or all of the Frocktober challenges (yes, the boys too!) or simply sponsor/donate to those friends, family and colleagues who support the campaign. It’s all about having some fun with fashion with heart in order to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and help to fund research.

Day one started off with my simple black dress, paired with a floral kimono and tan shoes.

Day two as a bit chillier than expected, so I layered a grey tee under a grey swing dress and accessorized with flat sandals and a green beaded necklace.

Day 3 had my six year old as a photographer! Still experiencing some cooler weather so i put on some tights and boots with this floral dress.

Day 4 was off to a Christmas launch and so I glammed up my little black dress with a fun blazer and a statement necklace.

My navy boots came in handy again for day 5, where I paired them with my leopard print dress and a corduroy jacket.

Saturday evening was the opening celebration of my friend's cafe, so I wore this maxidress with some gold shoes and a cream bolero.

My LBD was worn again for a lazy Sunday scrapbooking, paired with a simple grey jersey, black flats and some bling.

Next week may be tricky as I have some medical appointments and physio scheduled, and I am finding that the wind leaves me with a few Marilyn Monroe moments during school pick ups! However, I still have a lot more dresses to wear and I look forward to showing you a few more of my favourites.

Friday Frock Feature 4

Another Friday, another frock!

I had an opportunity to wear my LBD as part of my birthday celebrations. This dress is a bargain from Ezibuy- so easy to wear and comfortable. the material is a bit thin so I wore a nude slip from boohoo underneath.

I paired this dress with some strappy blue, green and black high heels, and added my new Portmans crop jacket for some warmth and colour.

My sister and I had a great time celebrating our birthday at the newly re-opened Yamagen restaurant, complete with a chef who was skilled at upside down salt writing!

Friday Frock Feature 3

Today I am sharing a fun party dress that I can dress down for daytime events.

This Heidi Heavy Embellished Chiffon Skater Dress from Boohoo has been great for both day and night occasions, and I love the extra sparkle that the top adds, and the gathered waist gives me shape but is still really comfortable to wear.

The back also has gorgeous detailing, with a button clasp and slight gape to show off your skin.

I wore this dress with flat sandals to a daytime children's birthday party, but it is also beautiful paired with wine red lips and black pumps for a night out.

Unfortunately this dress has sold out online, but I have found a similar one here.

Remember that I am wearing a dress each Friday for Frocktober, to find out more about this and to donate to a great cause please click here.

Friday Frock Feature 2

The best thing about October is the chance to wear a lot of dresses that take me from winter through to summer, as the weather can change in an instant here!

Today I am wearing a fun shift dress from Australian label Otto Mode from Love Love Clothing. Their range of shift dresses is so lovely, plus they do a great range of workwear and party dresses. The dress I am wearing is the Coco Shift Dress from their Moonlit Mantle range, and comes in the black check, which I am wearing, or a burgundy check with white sleeves. Both fit sizes XS-L (I am wearing the XS).

This dress is a bit shorter than what I usually wear, but at least it gives me an opportunity to showcase my favourite black high heels too!

I also get to wear dresses a lot for birthday celebrations- my husband and I went out for dinner so it was the perfect occasion for this dress. It would also be perfect in the cooler months with tights and boots- I cannot wait to play around with different looks for this dress.

Frocktober Take 2!

Last year I participated in Frocktober, and this year I am also taking part. A major factor for this is due to my personal struggle with endometriosis, ovarian cysts and a rife of other issues, leading to my decision to have surgery at the end of October after undergoing a barrage of tests this year. While my issues are not related to ovarian cancer, I am at high risk for this in the future and a lot of my symptoms are the same as what women will experience who will later be diagnosed with this. I want to raise awareness of these symptoms, as I myself brushed them off as "female problems" for so long until I finally went to a specialist.

Instead of wearing a dress each day for 31 days, I have decided to have a Friday Frock Feature each week. This works in better with my active lifestyle, plus I haven't accumulated as many dresses this time around!

Here are some of my favourite looks from last year.

This Boohoo dress was perfect for a high tea to celebrate my 30th birthday.

Off to a school reunion dinner in this fun take on a LBD!

Navy is my favourite colour to wear, and this dress is comfy yet practical.

I hope that I can be inspired again this year, and I would love for you to consider sponsoring me to help raise funds for ovarian cancer research.

Frocktober Day 31

Well, I have made it through a whole month of dresses!

The last few days have been extremely hectic as I traveled to a family funeral, which was a 9 hour round trip, on the Thursday. I have had a sick 2 year old since Wednesday and he ended up in the observation unit last night for overnight monitoring, hence the lateness of my post. We just got home and he went downhill again, so today I will be keeping a close eye on him.

We have also had car issues and an exploding laundry tub, so this body is fueled on lots of coffee right now!

This dress was picked up at Cotton On for a grand total of $15. I love the shape of it, and it is so comfortable and stretchy. It feels like I am wearing pajamas, and the fabric is a soft textured knit that keeps me warm but is not heavy.

I tend to shy away from leopard print, but in a navy tone it keeps within my comfort zone and not as bold as a traditional brown leopard print.

I am linking this outfit up with The Fashionable Mum for her Fashionomics Friday link up, as this dress is such a bargain and it is still available online and in stores in a variety of colours and prints.

Frocktober Day 28 and Under $50 Challenge

I decided to try the lace white dress trend- not sure I can pull it off with my winter pastiness but I put a jacket over top due to the wild and windy weather here today.

This post is a bit late today as I had an exploding tap then no water, a vomiting child and a cardmaking class to contend with - I am impressed that I managed to do it all it a white dress! Inking up stamps and dealing with water shooting everywhere in my laundry still left me with a presentable outfit at the end of the day.

My legs look so wonky in these photos- I do have one leg 5cm shorter than the other so in case you were wondering why my knees always look uneven, there is your answer!

I love these new sandals from Number One Shoes, so comfortable and only $34.99! In fact, these are the only things I paid for for my entire outfit, as the dress and jacket were both passed on to me from friends. I am entering this look in the Mystery Case Style Challenge- Outfit under $50.

Frocktober Day 27

It is a public holiday here today, but the fun-filled family activities I had planned have all been put aside thanks to the weather. My husband is happily taking the pantry apart today though, as he decided I need new shelves and paint, so look forward to a pantry update on my blog soon!

This dress has been given a new look with a blue top underneath and paired with leggings and boots to keep me warm.

A Frocktober Weekend

This weekend has been so busy, with my primary school Jubilee taking place. Since I was on the committee, it has meant a few late nights and so my blogging had taken a back seat.

Here are my Frocktober looks for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (today).

On Friday, I had the school Mix and Mingle with fellow students and past teachers. I wore a dress from Max that is a couple of years old, but still on trend thanks to the monochrome print. I wore black lace flats since this was a standing event, and paired it with a light cardigan.

Saturday night was the Jubilee dinner, and I wore my Sammydress Pink Ruffle Dress paired with black pumps and a pink snakeskin clutch.

Today I am in my trusty navy dress, with a navy waterfall cardigan and navy flats. There is a pop of jade from my camisole underneath. I am featuring this outfit in the Fashionomics Friday link up, as the entire outfit was free. The dress, cardigan and camisole were clothes swap finds, the shoes were a birthday present, and the necklace was gifted to me.

Frocktober Day 23

Just one photo today as my photographer was helped by a 2 year old who didn't take the most flattering photos!

This dress was a secondhand one gifted to me- I haven't really worn maxi dresses until this challenge and so I added a belt as I tend to feel rather pregnant in maxi dresses! The belt gave me a bit of shape and I kept everything else very simple.

Frocktober Day 22

I am getting to the end of my frock wardrobe, and so some of the dresses are being repeated.

I wore this grey Boohoo tiered smock dress again, but this time teamed it with a belt to give it more shape as well as wearing a large necklace. When the weather cooled down I put a grey jersey on.

Frocktober Day 21

What a beautiful day it is today, finally sunny enough to wear this new maxi dress!

This dress is from Sammydress and is part of their current range. I am wearing a Small. I love the fact that they cater for shorter people so I don't have to hem this particular maxi dress. It came with a slip to go underneath, and the drawstring waist gives it some shape. I paired it with a denim jacket for the cooler weather this morning, but the sun has come out now and so I am wearing this as is with some simple jewelry and my studded sandals.

Frocktober Day 20

Today I had a busy day full of visitors, running errands and playing with the boys.

I needed a comfortable, everyday dress and this Laura Ashley apple print dress does the trick! It is a bit loose and so a belt from another dress was added to add shape.

Frocktober Day 19

Today I celebrated my 30th birthday, so I was out and about having coffee, lunch and visiting my family.

I wore this new dress from Farmers that I received as an early birthday present. It was 40% off and came with the belt, so was very reasonable.

I had a lovely morning out at White House Black, then it was out for lunch with my family.

Me and my Dad.

Me with my husband Malcolm.

Frocktober Day 18

Today I frocked up for a high tea out at The Tea House. The occasion called for something floral, so I went with my new Boohoo floral zip dress.

The weather was slightly cooler today, so I put on a red merino jersey to keep warm.

These photos had to be taken at night, as my resident photogrpaher (the husband!) was out all day at a bike road race and since the weather was gloomy it got dark quicker than expected. So here is a bonus photo of me today at The Tea House.

Frocktober Day 17

This dress has been languishing in the back of my closet for a while now. I loved the print, but when I tried it on at home I realised that even with the slip underneath it is completely see through.

Today I tried it on- still not happy with the length and see-through factor. Then I remembered these faux leather panel leggings and paired it with them. Success! Now this dress is modest enough for our playgroup session and I won't feel self conscious of people seeing through my dress.

I chucked a denim jacket over this outfit for the morning, but it has quickly warmed up today and so I am enjoying the sun in this dress.

Frocktober Days 15 and 16

Yesterday got away on me a bit and I didn't get home until 10pm, so here is yesterday's look as well as what I am wearing today!

Day 15 was a simple black dress, layered with a red merino jersey as it was rather cold. I relied on my trusty black flats to get me through the day, as well as a touch of berry red lip gloss.

Today I am wearing a new dress from Boohoo, which has a fun tile pattern to it. I am being brave and wearing white, although I also have a nude coloured slip underneath. This dress is so soft and it feels luxurious. I have put my navy flats on for this photo, but they are getting a bit old and so I am hoping for some new navy flats soon *hint hint*!

Frocktober Day 14

Two weeks in to wearing dresses, and I am starting to wonder why I don't wear them more often! They are so comfortable and I always get compliments.

Today's dress is a new one from Sammydress, and I just had to have this due to my love of all things black and white. This dress should see me through spring and summer, and it was really comfortable to wear today.

I never used to wear short dresses as I am quite self conscious of my legs, but this dress was too cute to pass up. I wore heels today to give me some added height, but I did take them off to make cookies with the boys. I also wore my favourite black and white bead earrings to keep in theme.

Frocktober Day 13

Today was a maxi dress day- we went to the park, made a pirate treasure map and played lasers. All in a day's work as a mum of two boys!

I did put a cardigan over this maxi dress for the evening since it is cooling down, but had the cardigan off at home as it was a lovely sunny day here! The wind picked up when we took these photos, as you can probably tell by my hair. I had brushed it before these photos but had to chase my two year old down the driveway so I look a bit flustered here!

I hardly ever wear a maxi dress, but today I found out that I can still run around, swing at the playground and do all my jobs in a maxi dress so I may need to add some more to my wishlist! I am short so usually find that maxi dresses swamp me, but this one that was given to me by a friend is the perfect length.

Frocktober Day 12

Today I was hosting a scrapbook crop, so I wanted to wear a comfortable dress.

I love this black and white dress from Farmers, and it brings back great memories each time I wear it. It has been worn for wedding anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas functions and family outings, so it really is a versatile dress.

Today I kept with the monochrome theme and accessorised with black and white earrings and shoes.

I do wear glasses but usually take them off for photos as I only have them on for driving- I think they make a huge difference to how I look!
