Making a Gooey Geyser

Trying to find fun ways to fill in the week are always tough when you have an inquisitive toddler, and even more so when it is raining!

One of Lucas' Dora The Explorer books talks about a Gooey Geyser, so I thought we could make our own from household items and ingredients.

We put a spoonful of sugar and 1/4 cup baking soda in a clean jar, added some red food colouring and mixed it around a bit. Put the jar in a larger shallow bowl to contain any spills.

Add 1/4 cup vinegar and watch the geyser erupt!

Watching Lucas' face was such a special moment, and of course he insisted on making the geyser erupt multiple times. If your children are anything like mine, you may want to have extra vinegar on hand to recreate the eruption over and over again.
